Specimen Preparation. STL has a fully equipped machine shop. All analytical and welding test specimens are precisely prepared to exacting specifications. Experimantal heat treating, weld stress relieving and nonmetallic testing projects are conducted using one of two furnaces. One oven (12 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 23" ID) is capable of temperatures to 2,000F. Upon request, time/temperature charts are included in the report.
Metal Testing Physical testing capabilities for metals include: Tensile Tests, Free or Guided Bends, Charpy Vee Notch Impact, Hardness and Pressure Leak Tests. Many tests can be conducted at low, ambient and elevated temperatures.
Composites/ Plastics Testing. Plastics, Polymers, Reinforced Fiberglass and Rubbers are commonly tested. Applicable determinations can be made of: Dry Bulk Density, Dielectric Strength, Modulus of Elasticity or Rupture, Hardness, Specific Gravity, Cold Crush Strength, Abrasion Resistance and Bond Strength.
Ceramic/Masonary Testing Brick, mortar, refractory materials and cement are also tested
Adhesives and Gasket Testng Bond strength, burst strength, presure testing and peel resistance.
